WNYLRC/RRLC 2009 Leadership Institute Graduation
On Wednesday, November 18, 2009, fellows of the WNYLRC/RRLC 2009 Leadership Institute attended the graduation ceremony at the Holiday Inn in Batavia, NY. Also in attendance were family, friends and other guests of the fellows, as well as WNYLRC and RRLC staff.
The ceremony began in the morning with a welcome and introduction from Maureen Sullivan, the Leadership Institute facilitator. Following, each fellow of the Institute made a short presentation to the audience about a project they had taken leadership of at their own institution. Projects were varied and ranged across library departments and in some cases across organizations. Please check the WNYLRC home page for a link to some of the presentations by the fellows.
After all fellows had presented about their leadership project, Debra Lucas, Head of Reference, Instruction and Interlibrary Loan at D'Youville College, gave the keynote address. Debra was a fellow of WNYLRC's first Leadership Institute and spoke about how the leadership training had positively impacted her own work. She also mentioned how some of her fellow graduates were using their leadership training at their institutions.
Finally, each fellow was called to the front of the room and presented with a desk clock to commemorate their graduation. The Leadership Institute demanded a high degree of attention, study, collaboration and thoughtfulness, and will surely enable the fellows to step into new roles as leaders not only in their professional lives, but in their personal lives as well.
