In 2008 WNYLRC awarded the Kaleida Health Libraries with its Outstanding Program/Service Award for their work with the Somali Bantu refugees. This program was a partnership with Kaleida Health Libraries, Women's Health Center at the Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo, Jericho Road Family Practice and Literacy Volunteers. This was a multi-phase program which involved visiting refugees' homes, developing a website for resources in the Bantu languages and the formulation of brochures and even a picture book.
We are now happy to report the publication of a journal article, Health Education for Somali Bantu Refugees via Home Visits, in Health Information and Libraries Journal from the findings of that award-winning program. We also congratulate Elizabeth R. Eisenhauer, Elaine C. Mosher, Helen Ann Wolf, Diane G. Schwartz and Karen Lamson, WNYLRC's own former HLSP Circuit Librarian, for their work on this program and for their joint authorship and collaboration on this article. Karen is currently Reference & Instruction Librarian; Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
