Area goodbyes: Niagara Community College has bid adieu to Cathy Gibbs who, after 35 years, most recently as Circulation Librarian, has retired and will go on to relaxation pastures in Florida. Cathy had been active in many library as well as campus-wide areas.
The Buffalo School Library System also has had to bid farewell to Wanda Knight who, as of July 1, 2006, retired as Supervisor of Libraries for the Buffalo Public School District and as Director of the Buffalo City School Library System.
On the other hand a welcome: Lisabeth A. Weig, M.L.S., recently joined the Mirand Library at Roswell Park Cancer Institute as a Librarian. She was previously employed at Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
Elizabeth Curry has, as of 1 June, officially joined the staff of McGrath Library at Hilbert College as our Information Literacy Coordinator after being with us part-time for the past year. Liz, as her title indicates, will be coordinating information literacy instruction for Hilbert through the library beginning in the fall. Liz received her MLS from SUNY/Buffalo in May 2005, and her BA in Communications, also from UB, in December 2002. Liz has already made her mark in the library by authoring the library online skills workbook along with the many tutorials attached to it.
The Interlibrary Loan Department of E. H. Butler Library, Buffalo State College, will never be the same again! Marjorie Lord, Interlibrary Loan Librarian, and Betty Plewniak, Library Clerk II, retired this past spring after over 72 years of combined service. Numerous patron surveys conducted by Butler Library over the years, never failed to rate Marjorie’s and Betty’s ILL department at the top of the satisfaction scale for providing excellent professional and efficient service. Betty will best be remembered for her willingness to go the extra mile to guarantee a friendly, personalized ILL experience. Marjorie, always the quintessential librarian, kept all of us on our toes with her quick wit and her impeccable work ethic. She was a consummate team player and inspired us all with her generosity of spirit. Buffalo State College and every patron who ever got library materials through Butler Library’s ILL office thank Marjorie and Betty for their years of devoted service. Donna Davidoff, Butler Library’s new ILL librarian, along with Joyce MacNeil, Susan Jaworski, and Cathy Hanners, ILL support staff, are working hard to live up to the high standards set by their predecessors.
