The Awards Commitee of WNYLRC works tirelessly to choose candidates from among the all-deserving nominees and this year’s winner for Outstanding Program/Program Service Award, the UB Libraries for Stress Relief Week, has proven the worth of all that effort. UB informs us that this latest December Stress Relief Week–their 7th–had over 2000 attendees which is double the normal figure!! Stress Relief Week is a wonderful enterprise involving countless library staff members with the goal of alleviating all that comes down on students during Finals Week. Everything from food, to crafts, to yoga and especially–therapy dogs!!–contribute to a zen feeling that makes the library the places to be not only for study but for actual relief. The staff credits the receipt of WNYLRC’s Excellence Award as a reason for re-energizing them and the proof was certainly in the pudding. So, as you go through your year of being involved with colleagues and envisioning programs and putting all your efforts into a job-well-done, remember these things at awards nomination time cause, clearly, the impact of receiving an award is just not for a one night glory.
