The Speaker of the New York State Assembly, Carl Heastie is making his annual “state tour” this summer – since assuming the leadership role in state government, Heastie has made a point of touring different regions across the state, connecting with his colleagues. This summer his trip included stops in the districts of Patrick Burke, Monica Wallace and Karen McMahon.
McMahon’s office was able to plan his time with the Assembly Member to include a stop at the Williamsville Branch Library of the B&ECPL System with her. Roseann Butler-Smith, Manager of the Amherst Libraries, along with Maty Jean Jakubowski, B&ECPL Director, helped make the meeting a great success! Speaker Heastie even got one of the “green library bags” that went viral on Twitter just recently!
But he was also told by those attending about the importance of the libraries in New York’s communities, no matter where they are. Issues in which libraries play a vital role, including the 2020 Census and education were discussed. Also on hand were the Mayor of Williamsville, Deborah Rogers and the Amherst Town Supervisor, Brian Kulpa. Sheryl Knab, WNYLRC’s Executive Director, and several of the Amherst Libraries Board members were present as well.
